MUNI

They operate trains and busses. If you're staying downtown, MUNI trains are a great way to get around the city. You can download a system map at SFMTA and you can get real-time train schedules at NextBus.

BART

Bay Area Rapid Transit is San Francisco's answer to the tube in London. It provides fast service to some parts of the city and goes to both the Oakland and San Francisco airports. Find your destination on a map and see if BART is right for you.

Taxis

Might as well do the green thing and use Green Cab (415-626-4733). An alternative options is Luxor (415-282-4141). You can always just stand on a street corner and hail.
